Ways to Attach Lash Extensions Correctly

A new craze in the beauty industry, eyelash extensions let you have beautiful lashes that are effortlessly fluttery, long, and gorgeous in no time. This can be a blessing for those who have short or thin lashes. However, it can be challenging to attach lash extensions correctly and to maintain them.

Even the best consultations and designs can't prevent premature shedding. That's why every lash artist strives to create the perfect bond between natural lashes and extensions. And this affects them with confusion and frustration.

You aren't alone if you're struggling to help your clients retain their lash extensions. To help you, our experts have compiled a list of lash attachment and placement tips. Discover how you can improve client retention and satisfaction with each application by reading on.

Correct ways to attach eyelash extensions

Step-1: The lash line should be 0.5mm away from the skin

Eyelash extensions must be applied along with the natural eyelash, but they must be placed 0.5mm away from the skin and lash line. In addition, when wings are not positioned correctly at the correct distance, two issues can arise.

  • If the extension is too close to the skin, the glue can seep into the skin, and it can cause pain. And this can be uncomfortable for the clients and can even lead to redness, swelling, and puffiness to the eye area.

  • Further, if the lashes are attached too far out from the natural lash, a visible gap is created, allowing dirt and oils to collect under the extensions. As a result, the lashes can pop off early.

Step-2: Ensure that the extension's base is fully attached

It doesn't matter what curl length or direction you use. But, it is essential to make sure the base of the lash extensions is fully attached to the natural lashes.

The base of the natural lash can stick out if you place it at the wrong angle or aren't careful. When this happens, then it collects dirt and oil underneath the lash extension. Thus, the lashes can fall off prematurely. You can even pull off the new classic set eyelash extension with your lash brush.

Some natural lashes become bent or sideways as they grow. Instead of lashing on every single lash, leave them out for better attachment. As bent eyelashes won't give you enough bonding surface and are likely to pop off prematurely.

Step-3: Using the 90-degree rule

90-degree rule! What does it mean? Relax, nothing to panic. In simple terms, that means each eyelash extension needs to be placed at a 90-degree angle. Make sure you attach the lash at 90-degree from the eyelid instead of following the natural lash direction.

Even when the lash is wider than 90 degrees, it should still be lashed at a 90-degree angle from the inner corner to the center of the eye.

And, not only does it not look flattering when the lash extension is placed at a wider angle on the inner corner than 90 degrees, but it can also cause discomfort to the client.

Is it possible to attach lash extensions from the side?

There is no rule for the lash extension from which direction you must attach the wings. It's OK to attach from the side and bottom as well. Just make sure the extension base is parallel to the natural lash and you have enough bonding surface. Get in touch with your eyelash extension consultant and solve all your queries on hand.

Attachment at the top: It is one of the most common and popular methods. It works well for straight and downward natural lashes.

Attachment at the side: The benefit of the side attachment method is that it makes the lashes fuller. The client with insufficient natural lashes will benefit from this. But, make sure you don't choose this method if your client has curly natural lashes. From the side, it is more difficult to get enough bonding surface when the natural lashes of your client are curly.

Attachment at the bottom: This method is the second most popular method after top attachment. This works perfectly on clients with upward-looking and curly natural lashes.
